A mask unveiled

The scenery changes
The backdrop unfolds
The floodlights focus
And the audience grows

I take centre stage
And my lines flow
As I play a part
As I stage a show

And when the act ends
And I walk backstage
I spot my features
On a silvered glass page

And slowly I see
The cracks appear
And the visage falls
It just disappears

I see a new face
Appear from underneath
But is it really me
Beneath the sheath

As I look afore
I come to recognize
The known stranger
Before my eyes

It is me
From long before
A face I didn’t see
From long ago

And at once
I do recall
The day I had
This mask donned

This fragile charade
Had its roots
In pleasing people
And conforming too

I put on a mask
For laughter and tears
For at times I had to hide
What lay under the veneer

But as does this
Mirror reflect
A lesson to be learnt
A flaw to correct

I may wear a mask
For the world tonight
But I owe it to my heart
To be true to Me- inside

      1. Honestly, you are well deserving of this award. I can’t wait to see more of your stories unfold and make it from your mind to text only to be immersed even more in the world you created.

And just a side note, I thank you for the compliment, but I am no different than you or others here on this platform! I am inspired by others to continue to push myself to better my blogs. I learn from others just as they may learn from me, and it all lives in a big circle of us holding up one another 🙂

I am very proud to nominate you for this award. Never stop creating my friend! ❤
