Remains of the day

It has been a tiring day
I’ve run from pillar to post
To sell my ideas to someone, but
Refusal is what I’ve got most.

Knocking on doors is what I do
Its seems almost like a profession
Knocking on doors is all I do
As the part after that, rarely happens

No one seems willing to listen
To a person who hasn’t had a start
No one seems willing to listen
Even if what I say is a good part

They look behind, at my shadow
To see the glittering gold in my hands
They look above my little head
To see if I’m backed by a great man

And when they find I’ve none of these
Their welcoming smiles become bored
And when they find I’ve none of these
They simply show me the door

After all this, I did feel dejected
As would any normal person feel
And as I sat down and wept
I saw life snuffed out of my dreams.

But then change is the only constant
Was what I thought thereafter
But then change is the only constant
As used to say my beloved grandfather

Nothing comes from nothing, he said
Only persistence makes right
The path that you wish to tread
Has to be tread with your own might.

As each day ends in due time
And another begins anew
The remains of the day, what you choose it to be
Is what you’ll carry on with you.

And so looking back on my day
I see lessons to be learnt and remembered
And they’ll be the remains of my day
To carry on, on my next adventure.

  1. and so every single door i shall hit,
’till one leads to where I’m supposed to be
‘coz the good verse says – “knock”
    and ye shall find it!

    #loveloveloved the poem! 🙂

Thanks. It’s great to understand how many different perspectives can be evoked by the same words. 😊
